This 7-inch Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) arrives in full bloom in a decorative pot, making it a ready-to-display gift or home accent. Also known as flaming Katy or florist kalanchoe, this cheerful succulent produces dozens of small, long-lasting flowers in vibrant shades such as red, pink, magenta, orange, yellow, or white. Blooms can last up to eight weeks, and the attractive, thick succulent foliage remains ornamental even between flowering cycles.
Kalanchoe thrives in bright indoor light, ideally near a south- or west-facing window, and prefers temperatures between 60 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. As a succulent, it is drought-tolerant and only needs watering when the top two inches of soil have fully dried out, typically every two to three weeks indoors. The 7-inch deco pot provides ample root space for a mature plant, which can reach up to 8 inches in both height and width.
To encourage reblooming, expose the plant to at least 14 hours of darkness per day for six weeks, reducing watering during this period. Deadhead spent flower clusters with clean scissors to promote a fresh flush of blooms. Kalanchoe is easy to propagate by removing a healthy leaf or stem cutting, letting it dry for a day or two, and planting it in dry succulent potting mix. Note that this plant is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested.
