Château Haut-Batailley is a Fifth Growth (Cinquième Grand Cru Classé) red wine from the prestigious Pauillac appellation in the Médoc, Bordeaux, France. This is the 2022 vintage, widely regarded as one of the finest in recent history. The estate spans 41 hectares situated inland off the D1 in southeastern Pauillac, sharing the plateau with Château Latour and neighboring Château Lynch-Bages. Since 2017, the property has been owned and managed by the Cazes family of Lynch-Bages fame, who have elevated the wine to new heights.

The 2022 vintage is blended from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, reaching 14.2% ABV. The wine is deep, dark, and opaque in color with a vibrant, complex nose of black, red, and blue fruits, along with pepper, flowers, spice box, and currants. On the palate it is chewy, intense, powerful, and long, with gorgeous layers of fruit and a minty edge in the finish. Grapes are destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with malolactic fermentation in tank. Best served at 15.5°C (60°F) and decanted for 2-4 hours. The 2022 is best approached from 2029 onward and should reach peak maturity between 2029 and 2055. It pairs beautifully with classic red meat dishes including beef, lamb, duck, and game, as well as roasted and braised preparations, mushrooms, and hearty pasta.
