Château Montfollet Vieilles Vignes is a red Bordeaux wine from the Blaye - Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, produced by Dominique Raimond on the right bank of the Gironde estuary. The name "Vieilles Vignes" (old vines) signals wines drawn from the estate's most mature vine plants, yielding lower quantities of more concentrated, complex fruit. The 67-hectare family estate has been in the Raimond family for three generations and holds HEV Level 3 certification — the highest level of French environmental certification for farms.
The wine is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Malbec sourced from clay-limestone hillside slopes with south, south-east, and south-west exposures overlooking the Gironde estuary. Natural grasses are maintained between vine rows and ground cover is worked mechanically to encourage microbial activity and drive roots deeper into the terroir. Grapes are machine-harvested using the latest technology to ensure only intact, perfectly ripe berries are brought to the vat house.
Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to preserve fresh fruit aromas, followed by 12 months of barrel aging before the final blend is assembled to achieve balance between fruit and oak. The wine presents a garnet red color with a dense but subtle nose offering notes of grenadine and black pepper. On the palate it is fruity and well-balanced with a harmonious structure and lively sapidity. It pairs well with pork, poultry, veal, and hearty pasta dishes. The 2021 vintage received Gold medals at both the International Wine Challenge and the Lyon International Wine Competition. Contains sulfites.
