Peirson Meyer Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley is a limited-production wine crafted by winemaker Robbie Meyer from Sonoma County's premier wine-growing appellation. The wine is a blend sourced from two prized vineyards — the Miller and Bateman Vineyards — both situated at approximately 700 feet elevation near Occidental, California, planted in classic Goldridge sandy loam soils on gentle north-facing slopes that protect the vines from intense afternoon sun. Clones 777 and 828 are used to achieve complexity and depth of flavor.
The wine showcases bright fruit aromas of cherry, wild ripe berries, and pomegranate, blending gracefully with notes of sweet spice, flinty minerality, and a distinctive fresh earth quality. Aged for 15 months in 35% new French oak barrels following tank fermentation and malolactic fermentation, it presents a pale ruby color with a light-bodied, silky palate carrying notes of earth, tar, black cherries, and tea leaves with a long, lifted finish. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate awarded the wine 93 points, describing it as "an elegant expression." Sold as a case of 12 bottles, this offering represents exceptional value for a critically acclaimed, small-production Russian River Valley Pinot Noir that is built to age.
