Château Carbonnieux 2022 is a red Bordeaux blend from the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation, produced by one of the oldest estates in the Bordeaux region with a history dating back to the 12th century. This Cru Classé de Graves is crafted from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot, sourced from 55 hectares of red wine vineyards planted on gravel, sand, limestone, and clay soils.
The 2022 vintage offers aromas of flowers, cocoa, blackberries, black cherries, tobacco leaf, and herbs. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, creamy, smooth, and round with smoky, lush fruit flavors topped with dark chocolate, espresso, and a refreshing mint accent. A second tasting confirmed vibrant, silky, and soft textures with a sweetness to the fruits that pairs perfectly with the wine's lift and energy through a blackberry, currant, and earthy chocolate-packed finish.
This vintage has been critically acclaimed with 93 points from The Wine Cellar Insider, 93 points from Wine Spectator, and 93 points from Vinous. The estate is managed by Eric and Philibert Perrin and is situated near Château Haut-Bailly and Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Pessac-Léognan. Best enjoyed from 2027 through 2045, and pairs well with classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, and roast chicken.
