Château Haut-Bages Libéral is a distinguished Fifth Growth (Cinquième Grand Cru Classé) estate from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, France. The 2022 vintage is a classic red Bordeaux blend of approximately 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, grown on the estate's deep gravels of Quaternary origin over a limestone-clay substrate that is characteristic of the finest Pauillac terroirs.
The wine is vinified traditionally in stainless steel and concrete vats, with fermentation on skins lasting 18 to 24 days. Ageing takes place over 16 months, with 40% in new French oak barrels, 40% in one-year-old barrels, and 20% in ovoid concrete tanks and clay amphora — a thoughtful blending of tradition and modern technique that preserves freshness and terroir expression.
The 2022 Château Haut-Bages Libéral shows a deep ruby-purple color with aromas of blackberry, black currant, violets, pencil shavings, and cedar, with hints of mocha and orange zest. On the palate it is full-bodied with layered silky tannins, bright acidity, and a long, gliding finish with a sensuous graphite texture. Rated 95 points by Wine Enthusiast and averaging 93.2 points across 32 community reviews on CellarTracker. Best cellared from 2027 onward; pairs beautifully with beef, lamb, charcuterie, and aged cheeses.
