Chateau Langoa-Barton 2022 is a Troisième Grand Cru Classé (Third Growth) red Bordeaux from the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc. The Barton family has owned Langoa-Barton continuously since 1821, making it one of the longest uninterrupted family estates in all of Bordeaux. The 2022 vintage was the first produced in the estate's newly expanded winery, which doubled the number of vats and enabled sub-plot by sub-plot vinification. This offering is a case of 6 bottles, each 750mL.
The 2022 blend is comprised of approximately 56.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 2.5% Cabernet Franc, sourced from 20 hectares of deep gravel soils in Saint-Julien. Grapes were hand-harvested and vinified in temperature-controlled vats before aging approximately 18 months in French oak barrels with 60% new oak. Deep garnet in color, the wine opens with aromas of blackcurrant, violet, graphite, cedar, and cigar wrapper, leading to a medium to full-bodied palate with ripe tannins, fresh acidity, and a concentrated dark fruit core with a persistent, savory finish.
The 2022 vintage earned outstanding critical praise: Robert Parker Wine Advocate awarded 93–95+ points, calling it "brilliant" with "terrific depth and tension" and noting it "should match or even surpass the 2019 and 2016 vintages." Vinous scored it 91–93 and highlighted its "purity" and "lovely minerality," projecting a drinking window of 2028 to 2042. Jeb Dunnuck awarded 93–95 points, praising its "finesse and elegance." The estate has long been recognized as offering exceptional value among classified Bordeaux growths.
