Château Laroque is a prestigious Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux wine from one of the most historic estates in the region, dating back to the 12th century. This wine is crafted from a blend of 98% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc grown on 61 hectares of clay and limestone terroir in the commune of St. Christophe des Bardes, making it the largest vineyard in Saint-Émilion. The estate is managed using 100% organic techniques and is HVE certified for biodiversity.
The wine is fermented in traditional temperature-controlled cobalt blue cement vats and aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 12 months. Tasting notes reveal a deeply colored wine with opulent, lush character featuring layers of ripe black cherries, plums, blueberries, espresso, dark chocolate, licorice, and spice. The palate is full-bodied with silky tannins, offering a perfect balance between intensity, concentration, freshness, and elegance. The finish is long and creamy with salty minerality providing lift and precision.
Since the 2015 vintage when director David Suire joined the estate, Château Laroque has been producing the finest wines in its history, with recent vintages consistently scoring 90-95 points from major critics. Best served at 15.5 degrees Celsius and pairs excellently with beef, lamb, duck, game, roasted meats, hearty fish like tuna, mushrooms, and pasta. The wine benefits from 5-7 years of bottle age and should reach peak maturity between 5-20 years after vintage. Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended for young vintages.
