The 2022 Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is a prestigious Troisième Grand Cru Classé from the acclaimed Margaux appellation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. With a history spanning over 300 years, the estate was acquired in 1697 by Simon Malescot, adviser to King Louis XIV, and later purchased in 1827 by the Count of Saint-Exupéry — great-grandfather of the celebrated aviator and author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The 23-hectare vineyard occupies one of the finest terroirs within the Margaux AOC.
The 2022 vintage is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted both in the vineyard and cellar, with alcoholic fermentation carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel and cement vats over 8 to 12 days without added yeast. The wine is then matured on its fine lees for 12 to 14 months in barrels — 70% new oak — with regular stirring, and reaches 14.5% alcohol by volume.
The 2022 presents a deep, dense ruby color with a pure and fresh nose of great depth, revealing fragrances of black fruit, white pepper, ripe cherries, melted chocolate, smoked tobacco, and spice. The palate is persistent and harmonious with fine, velvety tannins, a silky texture, vibrant freshness, and remarkable aromatic richness. Critics have awarded this vintage exceptional scores: James Suckling 97/100, Wine Spectator 96/100, Robert Parker 90/100, and Vinous 90/100. Contains sulphites.
