Château Sénéjac is a historic Bordeaux estate located in Le Pian-Médoc, in the southern reaches of the Haut-Médoc appellation. The estate's origins trace back to the 1500s, with viticulture established in the 18th century. Since 1999 it has been owned by the Bignon-Cordier family, with consulting winemaker Jean-Michel Laporte guiding the estate since the 2018 vintage. The 37.2-hectare vineyard features vines averaging 35 years of age, planted on Pyrenean gravel soils that provide excellent drainage.
The 2022 vintage — considered one of the finest this estate has produced in decades — is a blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot. Grapes are vinified in 17 thermoregulated stainless steel tanks with malolactic fermentation in barrel, then aged 15 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new, at 13.5% ABV.
Critics awarded the 2022 outstanding scores: 94 points from James Suckling, 93 from Wine Cellar Insider, and 92 from both Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Vinous. The nose delivers sweet ripe blackberries, flowers, forest leaves, and pencil shavings. The palate is round, juicy, and creamy-textured, with layers of black currants and black raspberries culminating in a finish accented by hints of chocolate and spicy espresso. Best enjoyed from 2025 through 2040. Contains sulphites.
