Clos Fourtet is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B estate in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, situated on the limestone plateau just outside the village of Saint-Émilion. Owned by the Cuvelier family since 2001, the estate's 22-hectare Right Bank vineyard is planted to 85% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon on deep limestone and clay soils, with vines averaging 30 years of age and planted at a density of 6,000 vines per hectare.
This 2022 vintage — one of Clos Fourtet's finest — is vinified through whole-berry fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with malolactic fermentation performed in barrel. The wine is aged for 18 months in 60–80% new French oak barrels, resting on its fine lees for much of that time. Approximately 4,500 cases are produced annually using sustainable and increasingly biodynamic farming practices.
Clos Fourtet is known for its mineral-driven, dark-berried, opulent style with rich textures, spicy aromatics, and hints of licorice underpinned by the limestone terroir. The 2022 vintage is best suited to cellaring for at least 10–15 years, with peak maturity anticipated between 12 and 35 years from vintage. Decanting for 2–3 hours is recommended when serving young. Pairs well with beef, lamb, and roasted meats.
