Clos Marsalette is a red Bordeaux blend from the prestigious Pessac-Léognan appellation in Graves, Bordeaux, France. The 2022 vintage is crafted by the estate co-owned by Count Stephan von Neipperg and Didier Miqueu, situated in Martillac on a 13.6-hectare property with soils of sand, clay, gravel, and small stones.
The blend is composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a small portion of Cabernet Franc, with vintage variations influencing the exact proportions. The wine is produced using whole berry fermentation in oak vats and cement tanks, followed by 18 months of aging in approximately 50% new French oak barrels. A gravity-flow cellar and sustainable, organic viticulture practices — free of synthetic insecticides and herbicides — are hallmarks of the estate.
On the palate, the 2022 shows sweet black currant and dark red pit fruit, silky tannins, and nuances of cigar box, cedar, mint, and tobacco in the finish. Medium-bodied with a soft, elegant structure and fresh character, this wine is best enjoyed from 2026 through 2038. It earned a one-star award from the Guide Hachette des Vins for the 2022 vintage and represents strong value in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
