Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is the prestigious second wine of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, a Grand Cru Classé estate from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, France. The château's history dates to the 14th century, and since 1990 under the ownership of Daniel and Florence Cathiard, it has been transformed into one of Bordeaux's most celebrated properties. The 200-acre estate has been farmed under sustainable and organic practices since the Cathiards' acquisition, achieving full organic certification in 2019 and subsequently embracing biodynamic viticulture with in-house compost, cover crops, and a gravity-fed cellar.

The 2022 vintage is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, sourced from the estate's gravel-rich terroir shaped by Garonne river deposits. Aged 14 months in French oak barrels with 20% new oak, it captures the character of an exceptional Bordeaux vintage that Wine Spectator described as "a new paradigm for Bordeaux," awarding the overall vintage 95–98 points. In the glass, it presents a deep garnet-purple hue with aromas of plum preserves, crème de cassis, licorice, currants, blackberries, orange peel, and rose petals, underscored by hints of cardamom and iron ore. The medium to full-bodied palate is structured with firm, grainy tannins and vibrant freshness, leading to a long, mineral-lifted finish.

Critical reviews place the 2022 Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte at 94 points from James Suckling ("racy and polished tannins that go on for a long time"), 94 points from Jeb Dunnuck ("clearly outstanding wine"), 94 points from Decanter ("really impressively constructed"), 93 points from Vinous, and 92 points from Wine Advocate. The wine is best enjoyed between 2026 and 2040 and pairs well with steak, duck, aged cheeses, and risotto.
