Monte del Frà Cà del Magro is the flagship white wine from the Monte del Frà estate, situated in Sommacampagna in the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, just outside Lake Garda. Produced under the Bianco di Custoza Superiore DOC appellation, it is crafted from vines averaging over 55 years in age growing in a distinctive post-glacial moraine landscape. The Bonomo family, who have farmed these 140 hectares since founding the estate in 1958, vinify each soil parcel separately before blending, following a philosophy of meticulous zonation.
The wine is a complex blend of Garganega, Trebbiano Toscano, Tocai Friulano, Cortese, Chardonnay, Riesling Italico, Malvasia, and Incrocio Manzoni. It presents a day-bright yellow color with aromas of chamomile, apple, pear, peach, citrus, tropical fruit, and ginger. On the palate it is dry and well balanced, with notes of ripe melon, honeysuckle, quince paste, beeswax, and green almond, finishing with a salt-tinged, lingering close. The wine has excellent aging potential and can also be enjoyed immediately as an aperitif or paired with pasta, soups, freshwater fish, vegetarian, Asian, and Mediterranean cuisines.
This wine has received exceptional critical recognition, including 91 Points from Wine Spectator (Top 100 Wines of 2021), 93 Points from James Suckling, 92 Points from Vinous, Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, and 94 Points from Luca Maroni.
