Aresca "Costareto" Barolo DOCG is a prestigious red wine from the Piedmont region of Italy, produced from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in south-facing vineyards within the celebrated Barolo DOCG appellation. Made by Antica Casa Aresca following traditional Piedmontese winemaking methods, the grapes are hand-harvested at a yield of 8 tons per hectare and undergo alcoholic fermentation with maceration for 16 to 19 days. The wine then matures for two years in large wooden casks and rests an additional six months in bottle before release.
On the nose, this Barolo is ample and complex, with expressive aromas of dried red fruit, violet, herbs, earth, and spice. The palate is elegant and refined, featuring smooth tannins and layers of red mature fruit, cherry, raspberry, tobacco, leather, mushroom, and vanilla leading into a chalky, dry finish. At 14% alcohol by volume, this wine is structured for cellaring but shows beautifully upon release.
The 2019 vintage received 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, 92 points from James Suckling, and 92 points from CostcoWineBlog, which named it a Top Pick. Ideal pairings include roasted meats, game, and rich stews. Sold as a case of 12 bottles at 750ml each.
