Le Charmel Côtes du Rhône Red Blend is a French AOP-certified red wine from the southern Rhône Valley, crafted from 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah grapes. The wine carries 14.5% alcohol by volume and is HVE certified (Haute Valeur Environnementale), reflecting the estate's commitment to high ecological standards — enhancing biodiversity, preventing erosion, and cultivating healthy soil microbes to maximize terroir expression.
The vines grow in poor, free-draining soils dominated by ancient bound pebbles mixed with chalky sand-clay, laid down during the Miocene and Ice Age periods (6 to 18 million years ago). Planted at a high density of 4,000 vines per hectare and exposed to the famous Mistral wind up to 100 days per year, the vines are naturally kept clean and healthy while producing highly concentrated fruit. Harvesting is conducted at night to minimize oxidation, followed by a pre-fermentation cold soak to extract primary aromas. Cap punching, pump-overs, and microoxygenation are employed to achieve balanced tannin structure, with vinification completed at controlled low temperatures.
The wine pours a beautiful ruby red with purple hints. The nose opens with violets, cherry, spice, and classic garrigue notes — wild herbs of the southern French countryside. On the palate it is fruit-driven, with cherry and plum at the fore, backed by chocolate and well-integrated, fine tannins. Bright acidity gives it lift and liveliness, leading to a long, round finish. Wine Enthusiast describes it as having "a rustic nose with soft cherry skin melded with wild mint, terracotta, and delicate violets" and "a juicy black-fruited midpalate and finish."
Serve at 60–65°F alongside BBQ, burgers, red meats, firmer cow's milk cheeses, or mushroom-based dishes. Drinking well now, with aging potential of up to 5–7 years.
