Clos Marsalette Pessac-Léognan Blanc is a white Bordeaux wine from the highly regarded Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, France. The estate, located in Martillac, was created in 2002 by Francis Boutemy and is co-owned by Count Stephan von Neipperg—renowned for prestigious Saint-Émilion properties including Château Canon La Gaffelière and La Mondotte—along with Didier Miqueu.
The white wine is crafted from 1.3 hectares of vines planted to a blend of approximately 65% Sauvignon Blanc and 35% Semillon, rooted in sandy, clay, and gravelly soils with small stones. All vineyards are farmed using organic and sustainable viticulture with no insecticides or herbicides. Vinification takes place in a combination of 50% new French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, with no malolactic fermentation and no skin contact. The wine is then aged approximately 9 months on its lees in a blend of 30% new French oak barrels and steel, yielding both freshness and subtle toasty complexity.
Aromatically, the wine expresses flowers, white peach, honeysuckle, green apple, vanilla, and orange rind, with tropical hints of pineapple and mango on the palate. The texture is fresh, creamy, and lush, with a mineral-tinged citrus finish. It is an excellent pairing with shellfish, sushi, sashimi, all types of seafood, chicken, veal, and a wide variety of cheeses. Serve chilled at 15.5°C (60°F); young vintages benefit from 1–2 hours of decanting. The wine develops best with 4–6 years of bottle age and peaks between 6 and 15 years after the vintage. Consistently rated 90–92 points by critics.
