Lunaria Ancestrale Malvasia is a naturally sparkling Pétillant Naturel (Pet Nat) orange wine from the Terre di Chieti appellation in Abruzzo, Italy. Produced by the Cantina Orsogna cooperative of farmers, whose vineyards sit at the foot of the Majella National Park, this wine is made from the ancient and aromatic Malvasia grape variety — a cultivar whose lineage traces back to the Greek city of Monemvasia and was spread across the Mediterranean by Venetian traders between the 1500s and 1700s.

The wine is crafted using the traditional méthode ancestrale: whole bunches of Malvasia grapes are gently pressed to extract juice along with indigenous yeasts from the grape skins. The skins macerate with the must for two to three days without temperature control, then the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks using only natural grape yeasts. It is bottled before fermentation completes, allowing carbonation to develop naturally in the bottle — the hallmark of the Pétillant Naturel style. The result is a gently sparkling amber-orange wine with a light natural sediment and lively, persistent bubbles.

On the nose, the wine offers a rich and complex bouquet of floral terpenes, citrus peel, dried apricot, quince, honey, lychee, and a subtle spicy, herbaceous background. On the palate, it is fresh and aromatic with flavors of orange zest, stone fruit, and a hint of honey, supported by a delicate tannic structure from the skin contact. The finish is crisp, clean, and pleasantly savory. It pairs beautifully with appetizers, shellfish, risottos, pasta, fatty fish such as salmon, spiced Asian cuisine, and aged hard cheeses.
