Comte de la Chevalière Sancerre Rouge is a rare and elegant red wine from the celebrated Sancerre AOC appellation in France's Loire Valley. Made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes grown on the region's distinctive pebble-strewn clay-limestone soils, this wine represents a connoisseur's discovery — only a fifth of Sancerre produced is red, and very little of it leaves France.
The wine pours a pale ruby in the glass, offering a fresh nose of soft red berries, crushed stone, and wild mountain berries with savoury dried herbs. On the palate, it is lithe and elegant with wild country berries, redcurrant, fresh herbs, and an earth-driven mineral tone throughout. The finish is racy and refreshing with ripe fruit, smooth tannins, and a signature chalky Sancerre character. Alcohol content is 12.5%.
Comte de la Chevalière is a cooperative founded in 1963, today representing nearly 90 winegrowers cultivating 250 hectares of vines in the Sancerre region. The 2022 vintage was awarded 92 points by Decanter Magazine, which called it "a delightful Pinot Noir" and "a delicious red Sancerre." The Wall Street Journal has described Sancerre Rouge as "the connoisseur's wine" and "sensational drinking."
