Fukano Whisky Select is a limited annual release from Fukano Distillery, founded in 1823 and located in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu, Japan. Distilled from 100% rice — a combination of malted, unmalted, and koji rice — using stainless steel pot stills, the spirit is then aged in new charred oak barrels in a warehouse reminiscent of a traditional Scottish dunnage. The result is a whisky that is entirely distilled, matured, and bottled in Japan, distributed exclusively to export markets.

The Select expression brings together the six casks that form that year's Single Cask bottlings, further enriched by the influence of ex-red wine and ex-Manzanilla sherry casks. Despite a similar cask composition from year to year, no two Fukano Select releases taste alike, reflecting the distillery's philosophy of capturing a distinct moment in time. The whisky bottled at 43% ABV in a 700ml format.

On the nose, jammy red fruit and confectionary spice lead with highlights of cinnamon, ripe peach, and stewed strawberry. The palate echoes the nose before veering into brighter spice and higher-toned fruit with dehydrated apple, hints of wet clay, and warm oak on a long, moreish finish. Bloomberg has called Fukano one of "the most uniquely superlative spirits currently being exported to the U.S."
