Fukano Edition #2223 is a premium Japanese whisky distilled from rice at the historic Fukano Distillery, which has been in operation since 1823 in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. This limited edition release for 2022/2023 is a biannual expression with only 5,670 bottles produced globally. The whisky is aged in three distinct cask types including refilled White Oak, Manzanilla Sherry, and French red wine barrels, creating a complex and harmonious flavor profile.

The nose captivates with aromas of sugared plums, mulberry, fresh rain, baking spices, caramelized sugar, vanilla, and subtle floral undertones. On the palate, the whisky reveals layers of young cherry blossoms, waxed honeysuckle, orchard fruit, citrus oils, lightly toasted macadamia nut, butterscotch, tropical fruit skins, honey, dried fruits, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The finish is warm with smooth spices that transition into soft creaminess, accompanied by subtle effervescence and lingering flavors of ripe plantains, dried wine, and semi-sweet white chocolate-covered cherries.

Bottled at 41.6% ABV, this koji rice whisky is crafted using locally sourced grains and pure spring water. The Fukano Distillery has been family-operated for generations, producing artisanal whiskies limited to just a few hundred to a few thousand bottles annually.
