Testarossa's Mountain Select Red Blend is a full-bodied, Bordeaux-style wine from the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA in California. Crafted from fruit grown at the Black Ridge Vineyard on the inland slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains near the Lexington Reservoir, the wine benefits from cool nights and warm, sunny days that allow for long, slow ripening and exceptional concentration. Testarossa has been producing this celebrated red blend since 2008, formerly known as their Meritage.
The blend draws on all five classic Bordeaux varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot — with the exact proportions shifting subtly each vintage. It is aged in 100% new French oak for up to 55 months, a practice that builds remarkable complexity and structure while allowing the wine to develop at a graceful pace. The vineyards are farmed organically. The wine carries approximately 14.3% alcohol.
Tasting notes highlight a very dark red hue with potent aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, anise, roasted cherry, vanilla bean, and oak spice. On the palate the wine is full and expansive with silky tannins, juicy acidity, and a long, dimensional finish. Decanting is recommended for immediate enjoyment. The 2018 vintage earned 93 points from Antonio Galloni and 92 points each from James Suckling and the International Wine Review, with a drinking window stretching to 2035.
Testarossa Winery was founded in 1993 by Rob and Diana Jensen and is located in the historic Novitiate building in downtown Los Gatos. Winemaker Bill Brosseau oversees all production.
