Castaño Casa Cisca is a premium red wine from the Yecla DO appellation in Murcia, Spain, crafted by the renowned family winery Bodegas Castaño. Made from 100% Monastrell grapes — known internationally as Mourvèdre — this wine showcases the bold, full-bodied character that the sun-drenched Yecla region is celebrated for.
Grapes are harvested individually and undergo a 14-day fermentation and maceration process with controlled temperatures of 26–28°C, followed by 16 months of aging in oak barrels. The result is a wine with a dark, shiny garnet-red color and an intensely aromatic nose of ripe red fruits — blackberry, cherry, and prune — beautifully complemented by elegant notes of cocoa, tobacco, and toasted oak. On the palate it is unctuous, meaty, and well structured, with a rich fruitiness and pleasant acidity that harmoniously frame round, sweet tannins in a long, silky finish.
Tasting notes frequently highlight oak, chocolate, tobacco, black fruit, blackberry, leather, cocoa, and earthy nuances. The wine carries a 15% alcohol content and has earned critical recognition across multiple vintages, including a Guía Peñín score of 94 points for the 2008 vintage, a Guía Repsol score of 93 points for the 2012 vintage, and a feature in Vivino's 2020 Wine Style Awards for Spanish Monastrell (2014 vintage). It holds an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 from nearly 3,000 Vivino users.
This wine pairs exceptionally well with grilled beef, slow-roasted lamb, game meats such as venison, braised duck, hearty pasta dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Contains sulfites.
