Bodegas Muga "El Andén de la Estación" (The Station Platform) is a traditionally styled Rioja Crianza from one of Spain's most celebrated wine estates, founded in 1932 and headquartered in Haro, in the heart of the Rioja Alta. The name pays homage to the historic train station that was responsible for shipping wine from Rioja to Bordeaux during the phylloxera crisis of the late 19th century.
This Crianza is a blend of 70% Tempranillo and 30% Garnacha, aged for 14 months in French and American oak barrels without the use of new oak, preserving the fresh, elegant character that defines the classical Rioja Crianza style. The wine presents a deep ruby color with generous aromas and flavors of pomegranate, red cherry, raspberry, spice, and black pepper, with hints of vanilla. On the palate it is elegant and well-structured with a silky texture, integrated oak, and well-judged acidity that makes it approachable upon release.
Bodegas Muga is renowned for its commitment to traditional winemaking methods, employing its own master cooper and coopers who handcraft all the vats and barrels used in the cellar. The winery fines its wines with fresh egg whites and racks by gravity, combining centuries-old techniques with modern winemaking advances. The 2021 vintage earned 91 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Approximately 200,000 bottles produced.
