Château Haut-Brisson is a celebrated Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from the Right Bank of Bordeaux, France, presented here in an impressive 5-liter Jeroboam format equivalent to approximately six and two-thirds standard bottles. The estate was established in 1997 and has grown to 17.94 hectares across the Vignonet and Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse sectors, where vines averaging 30 years of age grow in gravel and sand soils. The wine is crafted from a blend dominated by 65% Merlot with 25% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the estate has been certified organic since 2010 while increasingly adopting biodynamic farming practices. Renowned consultant Michel Rolland guides winemaking at the property.
The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months using approximately 30% new French oak barrels, a deliberate reduction that preserves freshness and fruit expression. Tasting notes across multiple award-winning vintages consistently reveal aromas and flavors of dark cherries, plums, black raspberries, espresso, chocolate, herbs, licorice, and spice, with a medium-bodied palate, silky tannins, and a long, elegant finish. Professional scores have ranged from 90 to 93 points across recent vintages including 2015 through 2023.
Château Haut-Brisson benefits from 4 to 6 years of cellaring and reaches peak maturity between 5 and 15 years from vintage. Young vintages should be decanted 1 to 2 hours before serving. Serve at 15.5°C (60°F). The wine pairs beautifully with beef, lamb, veal, duck, game birds, roasted or braised meats, mushroom dishes, and rich pasta preparations.
