Violet Hill Pinot Noir is a single-appellation, terroir-driven red wine crafted by winemaker Rob Fischer, director of winemaking for Valravn, Averæn, and Marine Layer wines. Violet Hill is Rob's personal project, whose mission is to produce affordable, quality wines sourced from vineyards along the West Coast of California.
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes sourced from Santa Barbara County, with half coming from the Santa Maria Valley sub-appellation. The Santa Maria Valley benefits from chilly winds and fog rolling in from the Pacific Ocean, creating one of the longest growing seasons in the world and ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. Fruit is hand harvested, often in the early predawn hours to preserve freshness. Primary fermentation takes place in small vats, followed by malolactic conversion and ten months of aging in a French oak and tank regimen.
The wine opens with inviting aromas of ripe cherries laced with baking spices. On the palate it is supple and velvety, delivering flavors of red berries, freshly baked cherry pie, and a kiss of toffee on the spiced finish. Pairs well with beef, veal, poultry, and game. Alcohol content 14.1%. Contains sulfites.
