Lichen Estate Vintage Sparkling Rosé is a premium California sparkling wine from one of Anderson Valley's most celebrated estate wineries. Located at 11001 County Road 151 in Boonville, Mendocino County, the winery was established in 2000 when proprietors Doug and Lila Frey purchased a 203-acre historic sheep ranch. The property was named after the lichen found growing throughout the Anderson Valley landscape, honoring the natural beauty of the region.
This wine is crafted from 100% estate-grown Pinot Noir and produced using the traditional méthode champenoise. Extended aging on the lees — with the Grand Cuvée spending upward of 32 months en tirage before late disgorgement — develops classic toasty, autolytic notes alongside fresh fruit aromatics. On the palate, a lively mousse carries bright red fruit flavors that give way to a creamy, rounded texture and a long, elegant finish. The wine is vinified in a dry style with a light body, making it both cellar-worthy and enjoyable upon release.
Lichen Estate devotes approximately one-third of its estate Pinot Noir fruit to its sparkling wine program, which includes Blanc de Gris, Blanc de Noir, and the Grand Cuvée. The winery practices minimalist winemaking, using the gentlest equipment to preserve vineyard character and achieve its hallmarks of elegance, focus, purity, and balance.
