Gruet Brut is a non-vintage sparkling wine crafted in Albuquerque, New Mexico by the Gruet Winery, a producer with deep French roots tracing back to Gilbert Gruet's Champagne house in Bethon, France. Made using the traditional Méthode Champenoise, this wine brings Old World winemaking technique to the American Southwest.
The NV Brut cuvée is a blend of approximately 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir, aged a minimum of 24 months on tirage to develop complexity and a toasty, yeasty character. The result is a wine with vibrant effervescence and a rich, creamy mousse. On the nose it offers aromas of green apple, citrus, tropical fruit, and fresh florals with mineral undertones. The palate is dry and crisp with flavors of pear, lemon, and subtle peach, finishing with a hint of brioche. The wine has earned coverage from notable outlets including Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, The New York Times, Forbes, and Food & Wine.
At a Costco retail price of approximately $12.99, this is one of the more affordable sparkling wines made using the same production method as Champagne. Gruet maintains tasting rooms in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
