Matanzas Creek Winery's Chenin Blanc is a refreshing California white wine sourced from three distinct growing regions: River Junction (61%), Alexander Valley (34%), and Mendocino (5%). The wine is crafted by winemaker Marcia Torres Forno, who joined the winery in 2010 and brings over two decades of experience with aromatic white varieties. It is aged for 10 months in a combination of 51% neutral French oak and 49% stainless steel, preserving both texture and freshness.
In the glass, it pours a bright pale straw color with enchanting aromas of white flowers, lemongrass, melon, pear, and mango, complemented by a delicate salinity. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and refreshing, offering flavors of pepino melon, prickly pear, and green banana, all underpinned by a mouth-watering saline acidity. The finish is lean yet complex, with angular acidity that makes it an excellent food wine. It is dry with a medium body and 11.9% alcohol by volume.
Serve chilled at 50–55°F. Pairs well with shellfish, fish, fresh salads, soft cheeses, chicken, pork, and spiced dishes such as Pad Thai or Mexican cuisine.
