Domaine des Sénéchaux Red Blend is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC wine from France's southern Rhône Valley, produced by one of the appellation's most storied estates. The domaine dates back centuries and was acquired in 2006 by the Cazes family, the prestigious proprietors of Château Lynch-Bages in Bordeaux's Pauillac, who have elevated quality to new heights under winemaker Bernard Tranchecoste.
The red blend is anchored by Grenache Noir—the lifeblood of Châteauneuf-du-Pape—with Syrah and Mourvèdre providing balance, structure, and depth. Typical blends consist of approximately 47–54% Grenache Noir, 25–32% Syrah, and 19–21% Mourvèdre, with small contributions from Cinsault and Vaccarèse depending on the vintage. The wine is aged in a combination of foudre, older oak barrels, and concrete vats to preserve freshness and complexity.
Aromas are intense and expressive, opening with fresh red fruits—raspberry, cherry, and blackcurrant—layered with delicate spice, garrigue, herbes de Provence, and a touch of oak. On the palate, the wine delivers ample richness and velvety tannins, with flavors of ripe jammy red fruits, licorice, sweet spice, and pepper, culminating in a long, harmonious finish. Recent vintages have earned scores of 93–94 points from Jeb Dunnuck, James Suckling, and Vinous. Best enjoyed over the coming 10–12 years from vintage; pairs beautifully with confit lamb, roasted game, and aged cheeses.
