Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon & Fils Les Champonnets is a Premier Cru red Burgundy from the celebrated appellation of Gevrey-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grown on 40-year-old vines, this wine originates from the Les Champonnets vineyard perched on the northern edge of the Grand Cru slopes, benefiting from limestone and clay soils and a cool northeastern exposure that yield razor-sharp minerality, vibrant acidity, and elegant red fruit complexity.
The estate was founded by Jean-Michel Guillon in 1980 after he retired from aeronautics and arrived in Gevrey-Chambertin with just five acres. A devoted student of the legendary Henri Jayer, he grew the domaine to over 37 acres spanning more than 20 appellations. His son Alexis, who trained at the iconic Domaine G. Roumier—whose wines routinely fetch hundreds to thousands of dollars per bottle—now co-manages the estate. Jean-Michel was named Winemaker of the Year 2020 by the Guide Hachette. The wine is aged 13 months in 100% new French oak barrels made from trees that Alexis personally selects in French forests and seasons for three years prior to use.
In the glass, this wine shows a vivid ruby hue transitioning to carmine with age. The palate offers a harmonious blend of power and finesse, delivering luscious black fruit flavors with outstanding minerality and a long, refined finish. Critically acclaimed with a 92–94 "Outstanding" score from Burghound, this wine rewards 5 to 20 years of cellaring and pairs beautifully with steak, grilled red meats, veal with rustic sauce, and duck breast.
