Château Sociando-Mallet is a distinguished red wine from the Haut-Médoc appellation in Bordeaux, France, produced at the estate in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, ten kilometers north of Pauillac. The wine is crafted from a blend of 53% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Cabernet Franc, sourced from vines averaging 35 years old grown in gravel and clay soils over a clay-limestone sub-soil. Sustainable agricultural practices are employed throughout the vineyard.
The winemaking process involves manual harvesting in small crates with meticulous hand-sorting of grapes before and after de-stemming. Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats, with malolactic fermentation completed in vats. The wine is then aged for 12 months in 90% new oak barrels, imparting depth and structure.
The wine presents a deep, dark ruby color with a complex bouquet dominated by red and black fruit aromas, complemented by notes of minerality, florals, and spice. On the palate it is fresh, harmonious, and well-balanced with a solid tannic structure and vibrant acidity that promises excellent aging potential. The mid-palate offers a pleasing density of fruit, and the finish is long, silky, and fruity.
Château Sociando-Mallet is consistently recognized as one of the finest Haut-Médoc wines, frequently earning scores in the 90s from leading critics. It pairs beautifully with red meats, braised dishes, roasted poultry, and strong aged cheeses.
