Nino Negri Inferno is a red wine from the Valtellina Superiore DOCG appellation in Lombardy, Italy, crafted from 100% Nebbiolo grapes (locally known as Chiavennasca) grown on steep Alpine terraced vineyards in the Inferno subzone.
The wine displays a luminous garnet color with aromas of woodland berry, wild rose, dried flowers, plum, and a whiff of crushed stone. On the palate it is dry and full-bodied with tart red cherry, Alpine herb, a hint of white pepper, bright acidity, and polished, elegant tannins. The steep south-facing granite slopes of the Inferno subzone — named for its intense summer heat — concentrate the grapes and give the wine its characteristic depth and structure.
Nino Negri is one of the oldest and most celebrated estates in Valtellina, producing wines that showcase the Alpine expression of Nebbiolo distinct from those of Barolo and Barbaresco. This wine pairs well with braised meats, aged cheeses, risotto, and hearty Italian dishes.
