Adega Algueira Dolio is a flagship red wine from Ribeira Sacra, one of Spain's most dramatic and storied wine regions in Galicia. The wine is crafted by Adega Algueira, a winery founded by Fernando González, who in 1979 began the painstaking restoration of ancient terraced vineyards on the near-vertical slate slopes above the Sil River — slopes that had been abandoned since the Spanish Civil War and reclaimed by forest.

Dolio is a blend of indigenous Galician grape varieties sourced exclusively from the winery's oldest vines on its steepest parcels. Mencía forms the backbone, contributing minerality and depth from century-old plantings on pure slate soils of the Doade hillside. Ancient Brancellao lends delicate, subtle character, while Sousón and Caíño bring Atlantic freshness, vivacity, and structural tension. Garnacha Tintorera rounds out the coupage with added depth and color. Every step of viticulture on these extreme gradients — up to 60 degrees — is performed entirely by hand, with no mechanical equipment possible.

The wine is named after the "dolio," a medieval wind instrument made from an empty wine barrel with an attached mouthpiece, depicted in Romanesque corbels throughout the monasteries of Ribeira Sacra and even in southwestern France — a symbol of the centuries-old cultural connection between Galicia, wine, music, and the Camino de Santiago. Dolio has earned significant critical recognition, finishing 21st among the 100 Best Spanish Wines of 2023 by James Suckling, and ranking 6th in the Top 100 Wines of Spain 2024.
