Château d'Yquem "Y" (pronounced "ee-grek") is a rare dry white Bordeaux wine produced from the same exceptional terroir and vines as the legendary estate's celebrated Sauternes. With an annual production of only about 10,000 bottles per year, this is one of the most exclusive dry white wines in the world. First produced in 1959 and made as an annual wine since 2004, it represents the pinnacle of Bordeaux Blanc craftsmanship. This 1.5L magnum format is ideal for both aging and entertaining.
The wine is crafted predominantly from Sauvignon Blanc with a complementary portion of Sémillon. Sauvignon Blanc parcels are harvested at the very start of vintage, while Sémillon is picked at the precise moment when maximum ripeness is achieved and botrytis has just begun to appear, softening the grape's tannins and unlocking the aromatic potential of the estate's clay-soil plots. Vinification takes place in a dedicated vat room with temperature-controlled fermentation, followed by aging on the lees in French oak barrels — one-third of which are new — for ten months, with regular stirring (bâtonnage) to build texture and complexity.
On the nose, the wine is expressive with aromas of apple, pear, kiwi, grapefruit, melon, apricot, quince, honey, pineapple, and cream. On the palate, it delivers vivid flavors of gooseberry, grapefruit, lime, melon, citrus, mineral, flint, fig, lemon, pear, saffron, and bell pepper, with a long, elegant finish. ABV is approximately 14.5%.
