Typicité Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is a single-varietal, 100% Pinot Noir crafted by winemakers Collin Cranor and Craig Ploof under their boutique label Typicité, which is devoted entirely to expressing the true character of California's premier Pinot Noir regions. The name "Typicité" is a nod to the French wine concept of typicity — the idea that a wine should taste exactly as its terroir demands — and every bottle is made to showcase what great California Pinot should taste like.
Sourced from the celebrated Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, this wine benefits from the region's famously cool, fog-influenced mornings, warm afternoons, and crisp Pacific breezes that slow ripening and preserve the grape's aromatic complexity. Cranor and Ploof favor cooler fermentations with the use of whole clusters and an extended 10 to 14 month barrel program in premier French cooperages including François Frères and Remond. The result is a lush, structured Pinot with that signature Russian River weight and rounded mouthfeel.
The wine pours a brilliant medium ruby and offers aromas of wild berries, blueberry, and red cherry accented by violet, Kola nut, and clove. On the palate, earthy layers of strawberry, raspberry, and dried herb build around a dense midpalate with notable tannin and edgy forest notes, while the finish is long and fruit-driven. Pair with roasted duck, mushroom risotto, salmon, soft cheeses such as Brie, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at 58°F.
