Gérard Raphet Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is a prestigious red Burgundy wine from the Côte de Nuits, one of the most celebrated appellations in France. Produced by Domaine Gérard Raphet, whose family has farmed this storied vineyard for generations — with Gérard taking charge from his father Jean in 2002 — this wine represents the pinnacle of the Grand Cru classification in Burgundy.
Crafted entirely from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the legendary Clos de Vougeot vineyard, the vines average 60 to 80 years of age, yielding concentrated and deeply complex fruit. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented on indigenous yeasts, then aged for 18 months in older French oak barrels with approximately 15% new oak, preserving the vineyard's distinctive terroir while adding subtle structure.
The wine opens with aromas of ripe and fresh wild red berries, baking spice, earth, and newly turned soil. On the palate it is full-bodied and dry with fine-grained tannins, a sleek mouthfeel, and a long, austere finish. Compact and tightly wound in its youth, this is a wine that rewards several years of cellaring to fully reveal its layers of complexity. Critic Allen Meadows of Burghound awarded the 2020 vintage 93 points. 13% alcohol by volume. Available in 750ml bottles.
