Frédéric Magnien 'Croix Violette' is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation in Burgundy, France, sourced from vines over 50 years of age. The vineyard sits between the prestigious villages of Gevrey-Chambertin and Fixin, near the premier cru vineyards of Fixin, and takes its name from an ancient stone-walled plot neighboring a historic cloister known as the Violet Cross.
Frédéric Magnien is a fifth-generation winemaker from Morey-Saint-Denis and son of Michel Magnien, one of Burgundy's premier grape growers and former vineyard manager at Louis Latour. Since 2015, the Magnien domaine has eliminated oak aging entirely, aging wines instead in clay pots and terracotta amphorae to achieve greater terroir transparency. All vineyards are Demeter Certified biodynamic. The resulting wine is medium-bodied with the complexity and structured elegance characteristic of the Côte de Nuits, approachable in its youth while also suitable for cellaring. Sold in a 12-bottle case.
