Schiopetto Collio Pinot Grigio is an elegant Italian white wine from the prestigious Collio DOC appellation in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, produced by the iconic Mario Schiopetto estate. First produced in 1968, this wine has long served as a benchmark for the region's white wine style. Each bottle is 750ml, sold in cases of 12.
The Pinot Grigio grapes are grown on hillside vineyards in medium marly soils, producing small bunches with characteristically round, red-grey berries. Grapes are harvested and then gently soft-pressed in the total absence of sulfur dioxide, followed by a short decantation period. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with the addition of pied de cuve at a controlled temperature. The wine then rests on the fine lees for 8 months, building depth, texture, and complexity.
In the glass, the wine presents a golden-yellow color. The nose is fresh and inviting, offering notes of banana and passion fruit with floral aromatics and hints of honey and almonds. On the palate, it is savory and terroir-expressive with an intriguing freshness that provides both drinkability and complexity. The finish is very persistent and consistent with the aromatic profile, making it an excellent accompaniment to seafood, light pastas, and fresh cheeses.
This wine has earned notable critical recognition, including 92 points from Doctor Wine (Cernilli), 92 points from James Suckling, 3 tralci from Vitae AIS, and 2 Bunches from BIBENDA.
