The Crane Assembly G.B. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a prestigious Napa Valley red wine sourced from one of the region's most historic vineyard sites. The G.B. Crane Vineyard in St. Helena spans eight acres, with four of those acres featuring original head-trained vines first planted in 1885 by legendary Napa pioneer George Belden Crane. These deeply rooted vines grow in gravelly soils formed over millennia as deposits washed down from the Mayacamas Mountains via Sulphur Creek. George Belden Crane was the first in the valley to plant European varietals, including Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, in his pioneering pursuit of fine wine production.
The wine is crafted by renowned winemakers Dave Phinney (founder of Orin Swift) and Kevin A. Fox, alongside partners Bryan Sandoli and Darryl Browman, whose shared mission is to preserve this piece of viticultural history. The blend is composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Sirah, both sourced exclusively from the historic G.B. Crane Vineyard. It opens with aromatics of cassis, fresh violets, leather, baking spice, and crushed rocks. On the palate, flavors of ripe blueberry pie, licorice, tobacco, and cassis emerge, layered with finely polished tannins and notes of bittersweet baking chocolate. Mouthwatering acidity provides structure and signals excellent aging potential.
A 30-minute decant opens this wine beautifully, but patient collectors will be rewarded with further cellaring. Rated 4.7 out of 5 on Vivino across hundreds of reviews, this is a limited-production gem that pairs exceptionally well with beef, lamb, game, and mature hard cheeses. Alcohol content: 15.7%. Contains sulfites.
