The Calling Fox Den Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard wine sourced from the Fox Den Vineyard, located on the western boundary of the Green Valley AVA in the Russian River Valley, just 12 miles from the Pacific coast. The vineyard spans 14 acres and has been farmed by three generations of the Smith family, whose careful stewardship in the cool, fog-influenced climate produces grapes of exceptional depth and complexity.
Crafted by winemaker James MacPhail, the wine is aged for 15 months in 100% French oak barrels, with 30% new oak, and reaches an alcohol content of 14.75%. Grapes are hand harvested and undergo a 30-day fermentation, with the cap punched down by hand three times daily to maximize color, structure, and flavor extraction.
The wine opens with aromas of strawberry compote, cherry pie, violet, lavender, and red rose petal. On the palate, flavors of raspberry, dried cranberry, wild strawberry, and forest floor emerge, framed by focused acidity, a mouthwatering medium weight, and a long, lingering finish.
The Calling is a collaboration between Jim Nantz, the acclaimed CBS sports broadcaster, and Peter Deutsch, founder of Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, united by a shared vision for expressive, terroir-driven Sonoma wines.
