Caterwaul Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry, structured red wine sourced from the northeast of Sonoma County, California, near the Napa County line. This 750mL bottling is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and represents a collaboration between farmer Matt Hardin and acclaimed winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown.
The wine is aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, with 60% new oak, lending it depth and complexity. In the glass, it shows an inky purple hue with a saturated violet halo. Vivid aromas suggest notes of roasted meat, cigar box, and crushed blueberries. On the palate, it is dark-fruited and sweet-spiced while avoiding an over-extracted or jammy quality, making it a standout value from Sonoma County that competes with well-known California Cabernets at a fraction of the price. It pairs beautifully with braised short ribs or beef bourguignon.
