Cathiard Vineyard Hora is an exquisite Bordeaux-style red blend from Napa Valley crafted by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, owners of the renowned Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux. This wine is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 10% Malbec, sourced from the estate's younger benchland vines (5-10 years old) straddling the Rutherford and St. Helena appellations. Aged for 14 months in 40% new French oak, Hora takes its name from Greek mythology, referring to a group of goddesses representing the changing of seasons.
The wine offers crushed red fruit aromas including raspberry, currant, cherry, and boysenberry with dried floral tones of rose petals. On the palate, it delivers flavors of red cherry, red plums, raspberry, boysenberry, milk chocolate, and subtle spice notes. The mouthfeel is super-soft and full-bodied with resolved tannins that firm up on the finish, revealing structure that helps it age well. The tannins are gentle and rounded, with a seamlessly integrated texture that lingers with the fruit. Hora is designed to be approachable in its youth while maintaining balance and elegance, making it an excellent food pairing wine.
The Cathiards purchased the historic former Flora Springs property in early 2020, a site first planted in 1885 by Scottish brothers James and William Rennie. The vineyard is organically farmed with biodynamic practices, and the winemaking is overseen by General Manager and Winemaker Justine Labbé. Cathiard Vineyard is perched on the lower slopes of the Mayacamas mountains with stunning valley floor views, and represents the Cathiard family's vision of creating expressive, terroir-driven wines with finesse and freshness rather than heavy contemporary styles.
