Château de Poncié Les Hauts du Py is a Fleurie appellation red wine from the Beaujolais region of France, made from 100% Gamay grapes. The Py is a high-altitude terroir situated on southeast-facing slopes of pink granite at 410 meters elevation, where 20 to 30 cm of very mineral soil on a quartz vein requires great effort from the vines, producing naturally limited yields and a complex, refined wine.
The vineyard has been certified organic since 2021. Vinification takes place in 50-hectoliter concrete and stainless-steel vats, with cold maceration of whole or partially destemmed grapes. No sulfur is added during vinification, and fermentation runs 12 to 15 days for delicate aroma extraction. Pigeage is gentle and traditionally done by foot, allowing the terroir to shine through.
This wine has received notable critical acclaim, including 95 points from James Suckling for the 2019 and 2018 vintages and 94 points for the 2020 vintage. It has also earned silver medals at the Concours des Grands Vins du Beaujolais and recognition at the Concours International du Gamay. The estate is owned by the Henriot family, who also own Champagne Henriot, Bouchard Père & Fils, and William Fèvre.
