Royal Tokaji Red Label 5 Puttonyos is a legendary Hungarian dessert wine from the historic Tokaj-Hegyalja region, one of the world's oldest demarcated wine appellations. This 500ml bottle represents the second-highest sweetness classification in the Tokaji hierarchy, crafted from hand-selected aszú berries — grapes individually shriveled by Botrytis cinerea, or noble rot — painstakingly harvested from the finest classed-growth vineyards. The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was founded in 1990 by author and wine authority Hugh Johnson, with a mission to restore Hungary's centuries-old winemaking heritage using traditional methods and indigenous yeasts in 13th-century underground cellars.

The wine is a blend of Furmint and Hárslevelű grapes, aged for two years in 100% Hungarian oak casks, of which 30% is new. At 11.13% alcohol with approximately 158 grams of residual sugar per liter, it delivers a harmonious balance of luscious sweetness and the vibrant acidity for which Tokaji is renowned. The nose is intense with fruitiness, botrytis character, and spice. On the palate, flavors of white peach, ripe plums, apricot, dried raspberry, and orange marmalade are complemented by notes of praline, crystallized honey, and sea salt, with a plush texture and a long, expressive finish.

Rated 93 Points by Wine Spectator (2018 vintage). Pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheese, aged hard cheeses, fruit tarts, and crème brûlée. Excellent served chilled as an aperitif or digestif. True aszú harvests occur only in select vintages, making each release a rare and collectible expression of one of the world's most storied wine traditions — historically known as "Vinum Regum, Rex Vinorum" (Wine of Kings, King of Wines).
