Bodega Chacra Chardonnay is a world-class white wine produced in the Rio Negro Valley of northern Patagonia, Argentina by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, whose grandfather founded the legendary Sassicaia Winery in Tuscany. This 750ML bottle is a collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot, the celebrated winemaker from Meursault in Burgundy, and represents one of the most critically acclaimed Chardonnays produced in South America.
Made from 100% Chardonnay grapes sourced from 40-year-old vines growing in mineral soils with alluvial stones covered in calcaire, the wine is intense, energetic, high-pitched and lively, with a round yet austere character that is both refined and deeply mineral. It displays a dry mouthfeel and a natural saltiness unique to the Patagonian terroir. The wine is aged for 10 months across concrete eggs (20%), stainless steel tanks (15%), and used French oak barrels (20%), preserving its purity and freshness.
The estate is certified Organic and Biodynamic, following principles that respect the environment and the unique microclimate of the region. The extreme aridity of the surrounding Patagonian desert — with just seven inches of annual rainfall and a maximum humidity of 30% — provides a natural barrier against phylloxera and vine diseases, allowing ungrafted vines to thrive. Chacra Chardonnay has earned 99 points from James Suckling and 97 points from Tim Atkin.
