Ernest Vineyards Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast is a critically acclaimed wine from the boutique California winery founded in 2012 by Erin Brooks and Todd Gottula. This Burgundian-style Pinot Noir showcases the exceptional terroir of the West Sonoma Coast, with fruit sourced from renowned vineyards including Rayhill Vineyard, Michael Valentine Vineyard, and Cleary Ranch.
The wine displays a youthful ruby color with complex aromatics of cranberry, sage, orange peel, and Darjeeling tea. On the palate, expect pithy citrus acidity, cherry blossom, and crushed Bing cherry with crunchy tannins. The finish lingers with notes of cinnamon and sandalwood. Critics describe it as laser-focused and acid-driven with refreshing acidity and a chalky, mineral-driven finish.
Winemaker Joseph Ryan, who joined Ernest Vineyards in 2018, employs traditional Burgundian techniques including whole-cluster fermentation (approximately 33% stems in recent vintages) to add complexity while maintaining balance. The wine is medium-bodied with tension-packed structure and coiled tannins, best enjoyed between 2025-2035.
