Carruades de Lafite is the prestigious second wine (Deuxième Vin) of Château Lafite Rothschild, one of Bordeaux's five classified First Growth estates situated in the Pauillac appellation of the Médoc. First produced in the mid-1850s, it is among the oldest second wines in Bordeaux, carrying the refinement and terroir-driven elegance of the Grand Vin in a more accessible, forward-drinking style. This red Bordeaux blend is typically composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot as the dominant varieties, complemented by smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with the exact blend varying by vintage. Medium-bodied and polished, the wine delivers characteristic Pauillac aromatics of cassis, black cherry, cedar, tobacco leaf, and floral notes, with silky tannins and a refined, lingering finish.
