Château Rauzan-Ségla is a prestigious Second Growth (Deuxième Cru Classé) Bordeaux from the Margaux appellation on the Left Bank. Owned by CHANEL since 1994, the estate dates back to 1661 and was famously admired by Thomas Jefferson, who ordered ten cases after visiting Bordeaux in 1787. The 1855 Classification ranked it among the finest Second Growths.
The 74-hectare vineyard is planted to 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The estate has been farmed organically since 2019 and achieved official organic certification in 2023. The wine is aged in 50% to 60% new French oak barrels for 18 to 20 months. Grapes are sorted on two 10-meter vibrating tables so that each individual berry is inspected before entering the vats.
The wines of Rauzan-Ségla are known for their elegance, silky texture, and balance of dark fruit, floral notes, and refined tannins. Professional critics consistently rate recent vintages in the 93 to 98 point range across major publications including Vinous, Decanter, James Suckling, and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
