Domaine de Chevalier Pessac-Léognan Blanc is one of the world's most celebrated dry white Bordeaux wines, produced by the Bernard family estate in Léognan, the capital of the Graves appellation. Under the stewardship of Olivier Bernard since 1983, the domaine has become a benchmark for white Pessac-Léognan, crafting wines of exceptional complexity and aging potential. The wine holds a prestigious Cru Classé de Graves classification and is produced in limited quantities of approximately 1,000 cases per year.
This white Bordeaux is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon harvested by hand in small crates, with grapes picked in three to five passes through the vineyard to ensure optimal ripeness. Winemaking follows a rigorous traditional approach: cold settling in barrel, fermentation in French oak barrels, and aging for 18 months with 35% new oak. Bâtonnage (regular stirring of the lees) is employed throughout aging, building texture and adding layers of complexity to the wine.
The wine typically expresses vibrant citrus and white fruit aromatics underpinned by flint and mineral notes, with a rich, creamy palate and a long, focused finish derived from its extended barrel aging. It pairs beautifully with shellfish, grilled fish, poultry in cream sauces, and aged cheeses. The wine rewards cellaring and can develop gracefully over 10 to 20 years, with average market prices around $120–$131 per bottle depending on vintage.
